Hi!

Obligatory hideous webcam picture

My name is John Riney. I'm a programmer, video gamer, former boy genius and all-around nerd living in Charleston, SC, USA. Sometime ago, I graduated university as a Computer Science and Business double major. Up until recently, I was gainfully employed at a reputable company. I decided in November 2002 to leave ICF Consulting to persue other goals. I am currently contracting for the Geologics Corporation to keep the bills paid, and am developing a really cool product for a company I hope to launch soon.

I'm primarily a Java web application developer, but I've done research in a number of areas, including graphics, game programming, console programming (Gameboy Advance and Dreamcast) ...heck, I set up a web-controllable lava lamp once. RineySoft is my personal repository of stuff I've decided to share. There's a link to my LiveJournal if you desperately need up-to-date Riney updates.

Why RineySoft?
For a long time, my friends at ICF told me I should leave to found a software empire called RineySoft. As a going-away present, after I decided to leave, they bought me the domain. (Aww!) I needed a personal site, and since I've already picked a name for my software empire =), RineySoft was it.

How'd ya do that?
RineySoft was developed in an afternoon and evening with Paint Shop Pro and Textpad. Development done on my Dell Precision 350. Digital photography by a Canon Powershot A50, an IBM/Xirlink PC Camera, and a Sony Digital Handicam DCR-TRV120.

RineySoft requires a browser capable of displaying PNG files. Otherwise requirements are light. There's minimal use of CSS1 for text formatting, nothing else fancy.
